Objectified Perspectives: Gender Through the Lens of Everyday Items

Avarohana invites submissions for its upcoming editions. This segment invites photographers to explore the nuanced and multifaceted role of objects in reflecting and shaping gender identities in our daily lives. Through this theme, we aim to spark conversations, challenge stereotypes, and celebrate the diversity of gender expressions.

Concept Note

This segment revolves around the objects we encounter daily, ranging from personal belongings to societal symbols, that contribute to the construction and expression of gender identity, acting as powerful agents in reinforcing or subverting traditional gender norms. Participants are encouraged to delve into the subtle, often overlooked details that signify gender roles, expectations, and experiences.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Submissions should be original.
2. Photographers are invited to submit original works that explore the theme. This can include but is not limited to personal belongings, fashion items, household objects, and cultural artifacts.
3. Images should be accompanied by a brief description (100-200 words) explaining the connection between the object(s) captured and their significance in relation to gender identity or expression.
4. Submissions should be high-resolution images in png/jpg/jpeg format.
5. Each participant can submit up to 2 entries.
6. Submissions are open to photographers of all backgrounds and levels of experience.
7. Include a brief photographer bio and your photograph.
